MEETING AT 2PM SEPTEMBER 11TH

Wednesday 5 September 2007

For Projector

The graphic elements that are going into the interactive projector are almost done. We are only missing one thing and I need someone to create it for me. When we had the last meeting, we decided to have a CAD map, or architectural drawings of Curzon Street Station or a street map of Birmingham ... or something similar .... and when you walked across this map or building floor plan, hands would come out from the edges and appear to grab at your feet. Gap has done the hands but we still need a map or building plan or something to walk through. It doesn't have to be exact. It can be a free hand drawing of a floor of curzon street. I can sketch the main elements out if someone can do it in Illustrator or the like.

Any ideas? I will take anything at this point as I need to send everything to the projector company by friday. Can someone help please!

Here are the dimensions: 1024 pixels X 768 pixels 72dpi, saved as a .png.

Please comment if you can do this.

We Need Your Eyes!

Annie is working on an interesting piece of work for the projector. She will need to take close-up pictures of people's eyes. When we put the eyes in the projector along with a clip of rolling fog, as you walk across the floor it will appear as if the eyes are following you through the mist. Annie will be approaching people next week in uni and asking to take pictures of your eyeballs. If you can volunteer if you run into her, that would be really helpful as she will not have to track people down. This is why she needs it, so don't be alarmed, she isn't selling scans of your retina on the black market. Thanks in advance for helping her.

CureZone Website

Thanks to Fisher, we will have a website for The CureZone show. He will confirm in a few days if we have the domain www.thecurezone.co.uk

We have decided to keep the layout quite simple, using the poster, or an element of the poster, as the welcome screen with an icon to "Enter" the CureZone. The first page will have a synopsis of the show ... who we are, what we do, why we do it, where, when, private view, etc. On the left hand side of that page will be all the names of the artists exhibiting serving as links. On each artists page there will be the portrait that Krystof made, a brief paragraph of who you are, where you are from, and what your work is about (you have to do it for andrew anyways so you shouldn't even worry!), links to your personal web page or blog if you want. There will be thumbnails of a few examples of your work underneath your bio that when clicked on will provide a larger view. Simple as that. Do not ask for more. Off the main page we will have links for a map, contact info and our sponsors info.

Any suggestions, please let Fisher know. Fisher needs your biography and artist statement. If you want more examples of your work posted than what you have given me then email more jpegs to me.

This is going to be a classy show!

Everyone's in! Yeah!

Now that everyone has the go-ahead to exhibit at Curzon Street, we feel it is time to have another meeting. Next Tuesday at 2pm in the MA Studio. What we really need to talk about is gathering work and brainstorming ideas to use with this projector that we have provided for us for the private view of the show. Please see the previous post to familiarize yourself with the product. We are looking to have about a 5 min loop on the interactive projector but we need to plan the media for the system and get some people to work on the images and video files. The system is really quite easy and low tech to run. Any of us, video/photography savy or not, are capable of making the images/video that run with the software. Also, I am sure that there are individuals whose work would really suit the projector and if you would like to have some of your work in the spot light, then this is your chance. Some ideas that we have had so far:
1. an intro screen with something like dirt as the top layer that sweeps away to reveal the poster of the show, or another main image of the show.
2. A billboard of squares with (maybe) each of our faces which then turn over individually to reveal a sample of our work and/or contact info.

More or less, its just something to play with, so nothing needs to be complicated.

Come with some ideas on Tuesday please! Check out their website which is posted below.

Wednesday 1 August 2007

Karen and I visted the private view of the most recent show at Curzon Street - it was a show put on by the photography organization Rhubarb-Rhubarb. I wanted to post these images to give you all an idea of the space we have to work with. This show was spread over 2 floors and work was also displayed up the staircase and on the landing of the stairs. Two of the smaller rooms on each floor were turned into a food/bar area. One of the large rooms had boards while the other was left open. The other small rooms had stuff hung on the walls with no other installation, but the rooms would easily accomadate a video installation or a manufactured installation. The lighting is all pretty good and the windows let in a good amount of natural light. The floor is bare wood but the walls all look like they have just been painted. We'll work on arranging a viewing of the space soon to get everything thinking about where they would be best suited to exhibit.

As well, once Andrew and Phil are back, I expect them to announce that EVERYONE is welcome to exhibit at Curzon Street.

We have a sponsor!

We had a meeting with a rep from OMi-Interactive Systems yesterday, which is a company that has developed an interactive projector system; it makes visual responses based on movement:
"The system projects dynamic images onto any floor or wall surface and delivers a full body immersive experience, allowing users to control a game or advertisement through their body movement.
At the heart of OMi-Vista is a formidable software programme that is driven by a highly advanced movement tracking system. It ‘reads’ the precise position of any body within the projected area at any given time, allowing for real-time changes to the graphical images."

The company have agreed to provide a projection system and an engineer to set it up for the Curzon Street exhibition private view. Its simple to use: basically there is 2 layers of images/video (the images are simple jpeg files or avi). You design the top image to move away in a specificed movement (scatter, wipe, tiles, water, smash, trail are their programmed actions) to reveal the bottom layer. We are really quite lucky to have this system as its new to the market and hasn't yet been used in any other arts exhibition in the way we envision it for our show; it will be a one-of-a-kind attraction. We will be designing the graphics soon and will be looking for input from you all. Also we will possibly be asking a couple people to put their work in the system. We envision the projection being set up either in the foyer or in the bar area. Please have a look at the web site and the videos to familiarize yourself with the product. Any ideas on the type of graphics or interaction to have? Place comments on the blog.

Submission are In!

We got a couple submissions from Michael; we are posting all of them to determine the version that works the best. Also one submission from Gap. A big "thank you" to Michael and Gap for rising to the occasion and sending in some great designs. Please scroll down to vote!

Michael would like to add this about his designs:
1st Poster:
"The poster differs quite considerably from the "Juicy" approach and is more influenced by traditional poster design, cut and paste collages etc (might have something to do with an album of works by Andrzej Klimowski which I got from Andrew K and which I found very inspiring). The texture of the poster's elements, background and font seems to be slightly gritty which is to reflect the nature of the whole area of East Side at the moment (the only sleek thing there now is the Millenium Point). The area (or Zone) is destined for re-development, revitalisation and consequently Curing (hence Red Cross) through culture and art on one level and actual physical renovation on the other (hence the wide paintbrush marking the area, which may be seen as an artist's paintbrush but at the same time - a redecorator's tool). In the centre is The Curzon Street Station Gallery as a central point of these changes stressing the aspect of Curing Through Art. This is the aspect that the exhibition and the poster are all about and this is the actual place in which a part of this revolution will happen (red X marks the all-important spot)."

2nd poster:

"This one is much simpler, brighter - a bit in manner of Juicy poster. There is obvious relation between the shape of the pencil, the way the hand is holding it and a syringe. We are injecting the East Side area with Art (specifically the Curzon Street Gallery) and by doing so, we are curing it. That's it really :)"

Animation Storyboards - Your Feedback Needed :)

First of all, I apologise for using this forum for my own purposes but it seemed the most convenient way of reaching you :)

As some of you might already know, apart from my texture collaging in form of still images, I moved towards animation (seemed natural after some time spent on creating still imagery, although this whole pre-production stage is slowly driving me nuts ;)).

When the idea of developing an animation occured, I was asked to build a narrative around some of the images I had created and prepare storyboards. Now, for a person that can't draw, preparing 107 drawings is a torture, so you'll have turn a blind eye on their quality. I have uploaded them at http:// www.michalflorczak.net along with 10sec test animation and a form containing 5 questions. If I could steal few minutes of your time and ask you to have a look through the storyboards and leave some feedback (which is purely for my research purposes and is not published anywhere) I would be extremely grateful, and if asking or begging doesn't do the trick, I'll try to bribe you with a cup of coffee :))

I am trying to establish what is being communicated to the audience through that sequence of images (and I have to say it is more to do with emotions rather than a story in a traditional sense) and whether what you feel or get out of this equals my intentions. Once again, your help is much appreciated. I have to visit my tutor next Monday (16/07) with some feedback and I hope to gathered that through this makeshift website of mine and with your generous help.

Ps. On Juicy design - the fronts of A2, A3 posters are now ready, as well as A5 and DL flyers. I'm now waiting for James to get back to me with a map holding directions to Gosta Green and some other last bits and pieces.

We Have Secured Some Free Print!

BIG thanks to my friends at Woodward Design & Print in Nottingham, as I have had confirmation today that we will have 2500 A5 flyers and 100 A3 posters supplied by them free of charge for The Cure Zone.

We are still looking for a printer to supply A2 posters and promotional items for the private view, but Woodward's contribution means we have the major part of our print costs are sponsored. Another big step forward ...

Curzon Street Station

Brief:

Location/Building/Site
The Eastside of Birmingham is currently undergoing major renovation and revitalization - The Eastside Development Programme. Curzon Street Station will be at the heart of this regeneration. The building dates back to 1838 and has survived many attempts at demolition. It is in the centre of an area of great industrial heritage and in the near future it could be at the centre of an arts revolution. We are lucky to have this site as our external show in September. In keeping with the ethos of the site and building, please keep the history in mind when working on your designs.

Audience
The audience that we are trying to attract is widespread and diverse: we aim to reach beyond the art circles of Birmingham to draw in the vast community of the Midlands as well as to entice members of the media industry. Our audience is all inclusive.

Medium for Print/Design
Please work a design based on an A2 poster and either a DL Or A5 sized flyer (flyer to be double sided - the reverse side should include the contact/ info listed below, in addition to a map of the location of Curzon Street Station).

Anyone got links to a printing company?

We are having to be really creative with our resources to put this show on within the tight budget we have.

We are really looking for a printing house to sponsor us with the print at the moment. Both myself and Conrad have contacts and are trying to talk them round, but is there one of you that could really help with this?

Obviously sponsors can incorporate their details onto the publicity material.

Just wondered if anyone has close links to a printer that would give us the print, or a huge discount at least, as sponsorship?

We'll be looking for around 2,500 flyers (which will either be A6, A5 or DL) and 80 A3 or A2 posters. There's other stuff too for the private view (which we'll brainstorm at the meeting tomorrow), but not to be cheeky we're just looking for a big help on the main flyers and posters.

If you can help get in touch ...

JUICY INTERNAL SHOW

The internal MA Show which will happen at BIAD from 17th September 2007 will be entitled 'Juicy'. The off site show at Curzon Street is yet to be named.

We have had a number of submissions for 'Juicy' but we would like to finalise the design as this can then be handed over to UCE's marketing people for print production.

Please vote for your preference from the submissions we have received by MONDAY 25th June 07 so we can get this out of the way and concentrate on the Curzon Street show. You may vote for one design.

VOTING HAS CLOSED BUT YOU CAN SEE THE LINK TO THE OFFICIAL RESULTS HERE: http://www.blogpoll.com/poll/view_Results.php?poll_id=120255

GOOD NEWS FLASH!!!

I've just got back from the degree show and we can now officially announce that we have had formal confirmation from Phil that the site for the show will definitely be Curzon Street.

This means within the next few days we will have dates and can move on with the promotional print for the show.

Big big step forward...

Idea - might be too cheesy...

COMMUNICATION STATION
- a station where travellers arrive and pass through,

DESIGN JUNCTION
- the comming together of the 'International Artists' that we are.

SIGNAL
- a combination of the train station theme and design, a signal/signs are communication afterall.

I'm really not much good at this.

(THE) CURE ZONE

Title for Curzon Street Show:

The Cure Zone
Cure Zone
This is the Cure Zone

A play on words: Making a title by adapting "Curzon" into a communicatable title that will be catchy, location specific and hold deeper means about us as artists:

Subtitles: ?
Think of Annerley's Text
Work by remarkable/extraordinary/peaking/magnificant artists ... think modern.

Thinking about our site and the show:
Our art as a way to Cure (well, the bar and food and entertainment will be a cure for all I would imagine)
We as artists are a Cure for the site of Curzon Street because we are taking part in the revitalization of that derelic part of town and especially the AMAZING site that is the Curzon Street Station.

What do you think?

This name has been juggled around and seems to be acceptable. Lets talk about it. Can you envision a design?

JUICY is stil alive, we will use it for the internal show and they are happy to have it and will for production of posters and flyers.

Hi folks,
check this website that my friend send to me, its related to some of the MA degree Show, might be helpful!

http://www.axisweb.org/atATCL.aspx?AID=890

IMPORTANT : Outcome of Today's Meeting

We held a meeting today to discuss the design submissions for the show. However we were told point blank by Phil Thomson (who is now in charge of curating the off site show) that the University will not support a show at Curzon Street with the title 'Juicy'.

The title is deemed to be too 'studenty' and we can use it for the MA degree show on site, but for Curzon Street it has to be more sophisticated.

Basically if we persist in using the name 'Juicy' for the off site show the University will not chip in on funding. So we have a problem now that we must solve quickly, otherwise we will miss our deadline to get the promotional print and invitations distributed, and we really can't go ahead without their funding.

Also, the emphasis for the off site show now is that it is not a student show, but an exhibition by a group of international artists who have studied in Birmingham. The off site show will therefore be linked but not a copy of the on site show.

So, we need a new title ...

I was thinking about using something that links to Juicy but a word that is more sophisticated (OOZE maybe? PER:OOZE? Just ideas ...). Or we could go with something completely distinct?

We need your input on this quickly as the clock is really ticking now and there is so much to organise ...

PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS AND IDEAS!!! ASAP!!!

This is my idea.

Still need to add more graphic and info.
Not sure if it should be coloured.

Inside Curzon Street

Images from Chelsea's Graphics Degree Show

MA Show Meeting Tuesday 10:30am @ 004 grey floor

Just a reminder, again, that the meeting will happen tomorrow morning. We will be talking about the design submissions and working towards what we want our final poster/publicity to look like. Annerley and I have been to Curzon street to look at the space and we are very impressed. There should be some pictures uploaded here soon. We want to discuss taking a trip to london to see a couple of degree shows and whatever is up the the tate modern and other galleries. It would be ideal to go this week since degree shows are coming down at the end of the week, but I know this is short notice. We will look into prices for you guys tomorrow. We were hoping Andrew or Phil would organize something for us but it never got off the ground so it looks like it is up to us so if we go participation would be encouraged by everyone. Its a good opportunity to see how shows can be organized and presented as well as get ideas and info about production. Everything else has been halted to some extent because we are still waiting to hear from the big man upstairs about a secured contract with Curzon Street and a budget. That is why we haven't pursued sponsors, thought about press releases, advertising, entertainment for private view, etc. But these are all things we should be brainstorming about. There is plenty to talk about at the meeting, please come.

Chelsea Degree Show

Whilst in London today I went over to see the degree show at Chelsea with Shail. It was very good, much smaller than I'd expected and I didn't see anything we couldn't do. I had a chat with the girl who organised the show and she said it had been very well attended at the private view. The whole degree show had quite a lot of visitors today (but location location - it's next door to Tate Britain and is well postered and signposted all along Millbank).

I have picked up a show brochure (or as the girl called it the 'Show Journal'). This is nicely put together, high gloss, fold out poster. There is information in there about all the students and includes excerpts from the blogging. I also picked up some of the business cards (every student has one). The portfolios were on a rack on the wall in yellow and green covers. All portfolios were numbered and this number corresponded to an exhibit. Very easy to see what was what. They had three flatscreen PC/Macs in the corner exhibiting some screen based work, and a large plasma for all moving image on a DVD loop.

I will post pictures later on today ...

Leave your comments

Hi

Please leave your comments on the poster submissions that are now on the blog. Please leave helpful comments like what you like about it, how you might change or alter it to make it better, if you think it could work for the show and why, etc. Or post another idea that you think could work better. We will be discussing the submissions on Tuesday and hopefully moving forward with a agreed upon design. Thanks!

3 draft sketch for MA show poster, poster 2 and 3 are play around the typo design, full of imagination and changeable, can be graphic... can be illustration...can be photo shoot...can be 3D form...whatever, its just play around the 'juicy' name.

Submission Idea

My idea is using words which describe our definition of Juicy, placed in a block with the word 'juicy' emerging through changing text colour to form larger letters. I am not good with typography so this submission will be a collaboration with James.

The text I define 'Juicy' as is:

Edinburgh Blog Now Live

Hi

We have set up a blog for the recent Edinburgh trip so students can post their photos and videos. If you have not received an invite to contribute to this blog, but you would like to, email me on annerley.johnson@googlemail.com

See what you missed if you didn't make it!

GAP'S ideas

I've got two, one simple - one deeper. Hope you like them(...please...BMW).

mara's posters

I've used the venus of milo and the donatello's david's body parts to represent the passionate side of art and to keep it tongue an cheek as required by the brief. This way I could also play with the word juicy and its several meanings on more levels.
hope you like them and don't think they are offensive.
best,
Mara

Michael's Juicy Idea

What about...

Jucey instead of Juicy? As in UCE.

BIAD Degree Shows - a valuable source to critique

In the next few weeks, even before the Degree Show private view (20th June for Vis Comm), you can be looking at and analyzing what works and what you think doesn't.

Some students have chosen to just put clean foam mounted prints, others framed originals, and others even more elaborate installation set ups as backgrounds for their work.

See what you think, look at the details, the lighting, the portfolio presentations, record some of the could dos, as well as the don't dos

MA ASSESSMENT SHOW SPECIFICATIONS: You should all have the form in your email. Print and fill in and turn into Phil's box by deadline.

The submission of this proposal is required by all full-time MA students who are completing the course in September.
Part-time students (or students completing the course at irregular times) are also highly encouraged to submit a proposal, as consideration will be taken in regards to their current and potential work to be considered for the JUICY show at Curzon Street Station, to take place after the assessment show at Gosta Green.

Please submit your proposal on time so that it can be reviewed before your scheduled work check, happening in the same week.

PURPOSE: To provide a clear understanding of what each student is producing for the assessment show (to take place on 17th September) in order to allocate space, provide technical assistance and equipment, as well as having a clear grasp of the concept behind the work.
In addition, this proposal will be used to select students to participate in the JUICY exhibition at Curzon Street Station (happening at the end of September)*.

Complete the proposal as thoroughly as possible and provide accurate and detailed descriptions for each of the following requests.

Conrad's poster submission for MA Viscom Show 2007

Here's an idea that I threw together last night. Might be a bit quirky for what you want but an idea all the same. Tried to keep it fairly simplistic which should make it easy to adapt to any form of show related collateral. If it makes it into the 'maybe' pile then I'll apply the idea to some other peices of collateral. For those of you who can't see it you may remember the jingle 'Opal Fruits made to make your mouth water' (I'm showing my age!). For those of you who still haven't got it.....I've adapted a packet of 'Starburst' (formally know as Opal Fruits) to give the design that extra fruity flavour!!

LET' S GET TOGETHER

from the "Random Artists" show 2007 in Prague

Hey people,
ball is rolling for the MA show....i think it would be good to organise a meeting with all of us again including all of our tutors to discuss all show ideas to let it go further even stronger. The meeting is essential as well to talk about resources which will be and won't be available over the summer and which we need for our work.Till what time is Gosta Green open. When are the deadlines for this and that. And to make sure that everybody knows what is going on to avoid any clashes of two MA shows etc.
tuesday 19 at 10.30

Really IN or just one foot in one foot out?

As usual, I get one particular tutor asking the most out of the blue questions, in the most awkward of times - level03 assessments. And this one is do to with you lot - you can probably already guess my response if you know my character:

Question:
How driven are the MA students as a whole in getting this show off the ground?

Answer:
Uhhh! Why? What you talking about?

CUT A LONG STORY SHORT - man (has a Scottish accent) wants to know if you are really committed - how many of you??

Get Your Friends to Join the Blog(s)

We need complete support from everyone on the course to make these blogs work. It is beneficial to everyone to be on the sites! We can communicate ideas and discuss progress without having to call a meeting! And apparently most of us can't find time for the meetings. So please tell your friends to sign up. There are a lot of things happening and soon everything will be happening very fast and we want to make sure we aren't leaving anyone out!

ENTERTAINMENT FOR PRIVATE VIEW

One thing we must all have a good think about is how we maximise the number of people attending the show from the invitations list.

Think we need a big pull and if the catering and beer are sponsored we should be able to get some decent entertainment to make the show more attractive to those we invite.

So any suggestions for the private view? Any hot DJs that would bring them in? Or an up and coming band? Or any other suggestions on maximising the attendance from the invitation list?

Please comment on this - We'll be having a brainstorming session on this in the forthcoming meeting on 19th June and the comments left here will be our starting point. We really need to include the outcome of this decision in the publicity print which will need to be ordered early July. Are you working on a submission? Bear this in mind and leave space for this.

CATERING FOR PRIVATE VIEW

Hi All

I've just had a meeting with my Dad and he's agreed for our company (Black Rhino Promotions Ltd) to provide a contemporary buffet with Chef for the private view. We'll provide plates etc too.

That's a definate so the food for that is sorted.

The image “http://nosheteria.com/buffet.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

THERE WILL BE SUN... THE NIGHT OF THE SHOW

holaaaa compañeros!!
Some of you may know, but i have contacts in México inside of Cervezería Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma... ??? the brewery that manufactures Sol beer, among others, and this could be our first sponsor, all we need to do it's send a letter, explaingn what, who, why, when, where.... and it is already for sure that we will get them.
In Sol, they're going to help us out, with money, beer, or both, even goodies.
So that's for the news, and without saying more, there's another group in assosiation with CCM brewery that works in London, that may be sponsor, providing with some machines to make smothies or cocktails, for the night of the show... will keep you informed.

CALL FOR ENTRIES!! MA SHOW DESIGN BRIEF

Would you like to pitch for our MA show design and branding?

If you do, here is how. After today’s meeting we all (those who attended) have voted and agreed upon that our show will be called JUICY.

We want the design to portray the diverse and multi-cultural aspect of our cohorts. The ideas should reflect on how we as the fresh graduate will MORPHED into quintessential visual communicators, contributing our creative juices to the industry.

The tone of voice should be punchy and vibrant. Like the FLUX out of electric cable, the design should burst with energy and colours. Tongue on cheek almost!

----------
IDEAS ON THE TABLE
Initially when JUICY was suggested to the group, we were discussing on the idea of different kinds of colourful, vibrant and exotic fruits. A good analogy I suppose is cocktail drinks: colourful, exotic and POTENT!

This is a good idea to start with. But do come up with your own interpretation reflecting the theme and concepts. Who knows but your idea COULD be better.

----------
CRITERIA
We need you to look at two different aspect of this design exercise.

1. Ratio of an A4 or A3 poster of your fabulous design which will later be blown up to A2 size, if chosen. Information like the venue date and time should be included. If you don’t know what are the information, MAKE IT UP! We can always go back and alter it.

2. We want to see how you are going to apply your concept and design to the branding of JUICY. For example letterheads, invitation card, programmes, flyers, mailers, name tags, paper napkins, banners, badges and the list goes on and on and on. Who knows, maybe you even want to come up with coordinate dressing codes, t-shirt and even what kind of cups we are going to use during our exhibition. Ofcause you don’t have to do all the listed above but we want to see how your winning poster design can be translated onto other products in the show.

-----------
SUBMISSION
We would like you to post your winning design onto the blog. Therefore I would recommend you to upload your work in A4 websize (72 dpi) jpeg, pdf or png.

For example you may have 2 documents uploaded onto the blog. One with the poster design and the other will be your branding.

It will be wise to create your work in large printsize (300dpi) and then size it down for the submission. If your design is chosen, it will saves you the trouble of doing it again! Make sure it is editable so that we can minor tweek it if nessacery.

----------
DEADLINE
The submission of your brilliant ideas will be on the 15th of JUNE. That will be in two weeks away which gives you plenty of time. We don’t expect you to come up with 5 million items but atleast one finished poster and a few ideas of the branding of JUICY.

----------
PRIZE
This is the best part. Apart from your design going up live which is fantastic for your portfolio, the winner will walk away with a bottle of an expensive wine. If we get more sponsors, you may be getting more! Who knows you might get a SHINY NEW BMW if we manage to get BMW to sponsor us. WHO KNOWS!!!

So let your creative juice flow. Go wild, go mad, be fabulous. The world is your oyster. GO GET THEM TIGERS! RRRRrrrrrrr….

Will you participate in the MA Show?

The UCE show is tentatively scheduled for 17th September. Will you be able to exhibit your work on this date? This show will be held on-campus at Gosta Green.

If we arrange an off-site show, towards the end of September/early October, would you also want to contribute to this show? The proposed site for this show is absolutely spectacular and you would be a fool not to want to participate, but of course we understand that the late dates might not suit everyone. We also have the option of finding a new location and chosing a date closer to the end of the course that would suit the majority better.

We can not move forward with securing a location (especially the spectacular location!) until we get feedback from everyone. Please response soon with your plans for life at the end of the course.

Finding Sponsors

We have asked everyone to look into finding sponsors for the show. At this point we would like everyone to identify about 5 companies and gather the name, contact and mailing information so that we can contact them about making a contribution. We aren't asking you at this point to make the contact or ask for money, but contribute to the search so we can compile a contact list to go off of in the future. We have asked everyone to do this because we all have different interests, contacts, ideas, access, etc. There may be a company in your own country or even town that would be interested in sponsoring that no one else would think of. No company is too big or too small. Don't assume that people will or won't contribute. Money is ideal, but the services and products of other companies could prove just as valuable to us. Think food and drink companies, media companies, businesses with a focus on the arts, local, national, international - think of your parents/family and who they work for. Please email your contacts to: ma.show_viscomm2007@yahoo.com.
Or feel free to contact if you have any questions or conserns. Please try to do this as soon as possible so that we can begin to get some support.

Thinking of a theme for the MA Show

We need to brainstorm themes for our show. Listed below are a few that we spit out at the last meeting. Please add any ideas about themes that you come up with. As well, if you come across a theme that has been posted already, that you feel could potentially be a winner, please feel free to comment on it, ie: add ideas about how it could be envisioned and executed, or what you think that theme will look like, or how it could come to represent who we are as individuals and how that makes us linked as artists; basicall why it is a good option or why you would vote on it. As well, if you hate something tell us that too. We will take a vote on the posted themes so by adding comments to it could help us to narrow the choices for the vote. Part-timers are welcome to add comments and vote also!!

Themes:

Outside/in
New Battle
Touch Me
Out of the Box
Sushi
Off the Wall
The Jig
Hospital Theme - Born Again, New Born, Made New, Fixed, Surgery .....
Fushion
Messy
Sassy
Squeeze Me
Try Me
J U I C Y
- think of us as lots of differnt, exotic flavors, fruits, colors, blends
Quake
East meets West - West meets East - East and West meet each other and talk like sensible adults
Art on the Move
Cultured in Birmingham
Morphed
Tween
Heart of England
Solider thru the MA

Once we have a theme we can begin to design our posters, flyers, layout and flow of the show - which will be open for contributions from anyone on the course.
